comment:
"The
AE6100 is an excellent
choice to replace the SM58's and even the Beta 58's. Vocalists
often have on their rider 'SM58 or better' and we put up the
AE6100 and receive positive responses like 'Yeah! This sounds
pretty good!' and 'Who makes this mic? I don't recognize this,
but I love it!' Works well for the sax family, trombones,
etc. as well."

comment:
"So, a
large-diaphragm
condenser for under $100 -- gotta be a piece of junk, right?
Wrong! Audio-Technica spent a bunch of time on the
design and 'borrowed' some of the technology from their
higher-priced series. This is an entry-level mic for a student
type (i.e. someone on a tight budget). To our knowledge and ears,
this is the leader in this price category."

comment:
"This is
hands down THE bargain vocal condenser mic. Put away your SM58's unless
you need a hammer. This has great feedback for a vocal
condenser... it will give you very nice, crisp highs and plenty of
warmth in the low mids. It comes in at a price that is
actually below what a lot of dynamic
mics sell for. The word from AT is that a lot of the
technology for the big brother AT2020 large-diaphragm condenser went
into this mic. Make sure your sound man understands this is a
condenser
mic, and that it is hotter than a dynamic mic... and to adjust his gain
accordingly. We have even used this one on acoustic
instruments -- especially in settings where one musician switches
instruments during the set."

comment:
"In
1996, or maybe early 1997, AT
discontinued the very, very nice sounding made-in-Japan
small-diaphragm condenser model 4031. The wholesale price at
that time was $247. The replacement for this model is the
4041, and if you're looking for a small-diaphragm condenser that
handles acoustic guitars, mandolins, and banjos with warmth and
ease, this is a good choice. Because of the high SPL levels,
it is often used for overheads on drum kits and 'tinkly stuff'
(i.e. miscellaneous percussion). It also works well on
violins. As with most condenser mics, you need to be very careful
when bringing them up in the monitors."

comment:
"This is
a mic we often refer to
as a 'Swiss Army model'. Originally, AT designed it as a clip-on
mic for trap sets. We found that it is incredibly popular on
violins because the Unimount clip holds nicely to the chin rest (so
you don't have to drill any holes in your Strad!). It also works
very well on Celtic harps, since you can clip the mic to the brace
inside the harp, therefore allowing the harpist to lean forward and
lean back without banging into a conventional mic mounted on a mic
stand. If you double-mic a clarinet, you can clip one of these to
the bell of the instrument. Again, because of the ability to carry
high SPL-levels, it is a killer mic for low 'thump' on the Irish
bodhran. "

comment:
"The
keyword here is
'side-address'. As a drum overhead, we like it even more than the
4041. In smaller rooms, say less than 200 people, you can put one
up as an overhead, and a kick drum mic, and you'll have a very
complete sound getting cymbals, snare, toms, all with one mic. The
450 also works well on acoustic fretted instruments. We've had good
luck single-micing a concertina, since the side-address feature
covers the fact that the concertina is bellows-driven with sound
coming out of two sides."

Leathers for selection and photos; please call (301) 270-9090 or contact us for prices and availability.
Calton Custom Flight Cases -- For
guitar and other stringed instruments. Custom orders only. These cases
are very heavy duty and lightweight.
Access Fretted Instrument Gig Bags --
Access Brand gig bags are one of our favorite finds this year. These
are extremely high-quality gig bags at unbelievable prices. Their
"budget" line of Stage One bags are better than any other budget gig
bags we have seen.
Because these are rigid and well-padded bags, they cannot be
compressed and folded for shipping. They must be shipped in a guitar-sized box. Feel free to contact us for a shipping quote to your area. But even with a higher shipping cost, we feel these gig bags are still worth the
price!
Stage One gig bags have a waterproof, black nylon cordura
exterior. Very well-padded with backpack straps and accessory pocket.
Stage Three gig bags have a
waterproof, dark gray cordura exterior (600 denier, tweed-like pattern). They are extremely well-padded and rigid, with backpack straps and an outside accessory
pocket. Heavy duty hardware. The banjo bag is sized to fit resonator
banjos, but with so much padding we have found it satisfactory for
openbacks as well. They also fit many types of bouzoukis, octave
mandolins and citterns.
We occasionally stock or can special-order Stage Three gig bags.
Please contact us for current
availability.

Access Guitar Case Covers -- Turn your hardshell case into a
backpackable gig bag! (photo)

comfortable. If you prefer, you can carry the guitar by your hard
case's handle which fits through an opening in the case cover.
