Catalog > Stringed Instruments > Hurdy-Gurdy updated January 7, 2007

Kelhorn has been in business for over 40 years, making hundreds of hurdy-gurdies. Based in North Carolina, they make medieval, baroque and renaissance style models.

Susato Hurdy-Gurdies

Based on 12th century designs, with three strings, (1 melody, 2 drones) and diatonic keyboard with programable tangents. The Minnesinger sounds beautiful at various tunings and is suitable for solo or ensemble use. It features a steel shaft, trued wheel, brass bearings, precision molded keyboard shafts, tangents, keyshaft-guides, buttons, built-in shoulderstrap buttons, cotton & rosin container, and gear-tuners. The Minnesinger body is made of beautiful Appalachian hardwoods with a Sitka spruce soundboard. It is also available in Honduras rosewood or Adirondak birdseye maple or curly maple.
Depending on the string gauges chosen, the Minnesinger Hurdy-Gurdy can be tuned from D to Eb, from Bb to C, or from G to A. Please state your choice of tuning.
If not specified, strings for D to Eb will be shipped to you.
