High Spirits

High Spirits Kestrel double flute Native American style cedar, birch, and walnut flutes made in Arizona by Odell Borg. The higher pitched flutes (Kestrel D, E, Starling C, and Whitetail Hawk B) are made of Birch. Birch offers a bright, clear tone and lovely blonde aesthetic. The lower pitched flutes are available in either walnut or cedar. Walnut provides a dark, rich sound; cedar has a warmer tone, a reddish hue, and a distinctive, pleasant aroma. High Spirits flutes have 6 holes, but feature a leather tie designed to cover one of the holes if desired. Thus High Spirits flutes can be played in either of the two main Native American style flute configurations, 5 or 6 holed.
  • Based on the pentatonic scale (5 major notes)
  • Diatonic and chromatic scales can be achieved by half-holing and cross-fingering

We occasionally carry Native American style flutes made by Denali Degraf, a drum and flute-maker who travels frequently between our area and South/Central America (so availability is often based on his schedule).
