120 bass Piano Accordions, New

Accordions are sized by number of basses. We like the smaller sizes for folk music. For a full description and comparison of other sizes and their features, see Sizes of Piano Accordions.
Standard, full-size PA's have 120 basses, and are sized by keyboard width (body height at the bellows can vary, so keyboard size is not the sole determining factor). Spacing between the keys can vary and our measurements are approximate, so a 17.25 inch keyboard may have the same size keys as a 17.5 inch keyboard. We use the following arbitrary designations here:

Midget: 15" to 16"
Junior: 16" to 17"
Spinet or ladies: 17" to 18"
Nearly full: 18" to 19"
Full: 19" to 19.5"

PANItalia Lightweight

This is a big feature, full size accordion weighing in at a mere 17.25 lbs. The PANItalia Lightweight is for those seeking the perfect acoustic accordion which is easy to handle, particularly for those who stand while playing. It can be amplified, with Sennheiser mic system or any other system. MIDI installation also available. Made in Italy by PANcordion.

How do they make it so lightweight? They carefully carve away every bit of excess wood by hand. This saves on weight without compromising the stability of the body. They use durable and lightweight space age metals that are more costly but also save greatly on the weight. There are 4 fewer keys than on a standard keyboard - the 37 key keyboard goes from F to F instead of F to A as on a 41 key keyboard.

Quick note regarding the PANitalia Lightweight from the manufacturer: Since the inception of this model several years ago, we have made a few improvements, the most important of which is better reed quality. This has resulted in a small increase in weight. Today, the instrument weighs approx 17.25 lbs.
