COMBO CAMP: Summer Musical Experience for Teens July 7-25, 2008

Combo Camp is a musical day camp allowing intermediate-advanced musicians aged 12 through 17 to gain experience playing in a contemporary band setting.

  • jazz, funk, rock, latin, blues
  • focused, fun and supportive environment
  • faculty of professional musicians and educators
  • Combo Camp classes include: ensemble playing, music theory, musicianship, contemporary music history, and instrument instruction.
  • Combo Camp is limited to a maximum of 25 participants per week, so players get plenty of playing time and individual attention, and the combos won't be overcrowded.
  • Friday evening concerts

Sample Day at Combo Camp:

    9:00-10:30 am -- instrument instruction
    10:30-11:30 am -- music theory
    11:30-12:30 pm -- musicianship
    12:30-1:00 pm -- lunch
    1:00-2:00 pm -- music history
    2:00-4:00 pm -- combo practice

    Friday evening concerts begin at 5:00 pm. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.

Combo Camp Instructors:
Combo Camp instructors are professional musicians and music teachers. Instructors teach group instrument lessons as well as lead the combos. Instructors include:

  • Robert Lighthouse -- Guitar
  • Chris Colvin -- Bass
  • John Rogers -- Brass/Reeds

Combo Camp Details:

  • Combo Camp classes will be held at the Seeker's Church (seekerschurch.org), 276 Carroll St. NW (across the street from the Takoma metro station) Washington DC 20012
  • Combo Camp 2008 will be held for three 1-week sessions in July (July 7-25).
  • Participants may sign up for one, two or three weeks.
  • Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Each camp week culminates in a Friday Evening Concert (5 p.m.).
  • Each participant will receive a CD of the concert performance.
