Folk, bluegrass, blues, swing, bossa nova and jazz guitar and vocals
Esther Haynes studied finger-style folk guitar at 12, banjo at 15, and later blues, swing, and jazz rhythm styles. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in voice and professional music.
In Boston, she joined the bluegrass/swing band Boston City Limits on rhythm guitar and vocals, and has continued to perform with musicians such as ragtime and contra-dance guitarist Larry Unger, John Dirac of the Either Orchestra, Justin Lees, Phil Mathieu, and Rusty Bogart. In DC, she performed with the Tom Cunningham orchestra on guitar and in a Boswell-Sisters-style vocal trio.
Currently, she works in a duo with lead-guitarist Keith Grimes (noted for his work on Eva Cassidy's recordings), in roots band Hokum Jazz, and has occasionally guested with the Nighthawks. She is versed in folk, bluegrass, blues, swing, bossa nova and jazz styles.
She has recorded two CDs, Esther Haynes which received a Wammie Nomination for debut recording, and Approach Note, a recording of jazz vocal standards.
Ms. Haynes holds a Master's Degree in Education, K-12, from Marymount University.

Lessons are $50 for 1 hour and are held at the instructor's residence in Takoma Park, or at HMT on Wednesdays.
