Guitar: All levels. Styles include folk, blues, jazz, bossa, classical
A native of Rennes, Brittany (France), who grew up largely in North Carolina, Alex Martin has studied with former Thelonious Monk trumpeter Ray Copeland and nylon-string jazz guitar legend Gene Bertoncini. He plays in venues throughout the Washington, DC, area.
He has released two CDs, Nostalgia for Terra Incognita (2007), recorded with his Brazilian jazz quartet, Amerique Latine, and Second Life (2010), a trio disc (guitar, acoustic bass, drums) made possible by a grant from the Prince George's Arts Council and focusing on Martin's own compositions. Samples from these recordings can be heard on his website. (alexmartinmusic.com)
As a teacher, he enjoys working with intermediate and advanced students on jazz improvisation. He also loves helping beginners discover their own musical voice.
Alex teaches adults of all levels in the following styles: folk, blues, jazz, bossa, classical.
He teaches at his home in Mount Rainier ($45/hour or $30/half-hour) but is also available for lessons at HMT ($50/hour).
