Michelle Webb is recognized as an incredibly creative and innovative guitarist, improviser, producer and Oud player in the fields of jazz, electronic and experimental music. Combining breathtaking technique with musical intelligence, she displays a mastery of expression that encompasses delicate lyricism and sonic abstractions.
Michelle started playing guitar at the age of 5. Along the way she has studied with Washington DC guitar giant Tom Newman, and majored in jazz studies at Oberlin Conservatory with guitarist Bob Ferrazza and classical guitar with Steven Aaron.
A student and fan of Israeli and Palestinian music, Michelle took up the Oud 4 years ago after a private lesson with top Iraqi Oud player Rahim Al Haj. She has studied Oud and attended various master workshops from Simon Shaheen, Mohsen Subhi and Rahim Al Haj.
Michelle teaches 5-course Oud in the tuning E-A-D-G-C. She teaches the regional traditions of Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon. Lessons are $25 per half-hour and $45 per hour, and are held at the instructor's home in Takoma Park, MD. Lessons must be booked and paid in advance by the month.
